Message of fightclub?

I understand that the message of fightclub is to ignore what the media thinks and learn to think for yourself, rather than to be a mindless sheep. The media convinced us daily that beauty and money is the key to happiness, be it socially, financially, or psychologically. Fightclub teaches us to break away from these illusion, but I can't seem to understand why they would use somebody like Brad Pitt to convey this idea. Brad Pitt is an exceptionally good looking man, so when he is telling us average joes to not worry about our appearence, it comes off as being a bit hypocritical. Don't you agree. Wouldn't a more ugly/all right looking male have played his role better? discuss
